Les Citadelles de Lumiére MACKENZIE COUNTRY ~ SOUTH ISLAND ~ NEW ZEALAND They have become know locally as the 'Connie Lupin'... a colourful variety of russell lupin introduced to the landscape of the Mackenzie basin by Connie Scott in the 1950's. Connie would scatter the seeds along the exposed sides of the main highway, believing that the dry brown, tussock grass landscape needed colour. In this present time, if only Connie could see the spectacle she created, I wonder what her thoughts would be?
