“Sunday, 28 May The last stage of the Giro is mainly a circuit race in Rome. After an out-and-back to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the course consists of five almost flat laps of 17.6 kilometres each. On the first 16 kilometres, the riders cycle to the Lido di Castel Fusano, Rome's beach. It is located south of Ostia, the port of ancient Rome. The same road leads back to the city, where the circuit awaits. The circuit is a variation of the Rome stage that ended the 2018 Giro. This time, however, it is more than 6 kilometres longer and, in a northerly twist, runs mostly along the Tiber and also dips briefly into the Villa Borghese city park. Beyond that, the route winds through the old town and leads via the Circus Maximus to the Colosseum. From there, it's a straight line to the finish on the Via dei Fori Imperiali. It's not difficult, even if the sprinters might see it differently. They didn't drag themselves over all those mountains for nothing. Give it their all one last time, that's their motto. In 2018, Sam Bennett took the stage win, beating Elia Viviani and Jean-Pierre Drucker in a sprint. Chris Froome also crossed the finish line jubilant, as he was the overall winner of that year's edition.
