Composer: Maurice Ravel (1875 - 1937) Orchestrated by Ravel himself. Dear little bit of Ronsard, Little sweet one, little soft one, Dearest hostess of my body, You descend below, so weakly, So pale, so meager, so lonely, To the cold kingdom of the dead; However simple, without remorse For murder, poison, and bitterness, Scorning favors and treasures, So envied by the common man. Passer-by, as I said: follow your fortune, Don’t disturb my rest, I'm sleeping. “I have always written my Epitaph, or at least that of Ronsard; and I put as much enthusiasm into it as if it were intended for me.“ - Maurice Ravel Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire Conductor: André Vandernoot Tenor: Gérard Souzay A simple but beautiful orchestration. This may be Ravel's last work, even later than “Don Quichotte à Dulcinée“. The final overlapped fifths, the addition of bass strings and tam-tam add a deep atmosphere to the music. Score engraved by myself.
