ROCKS….IMO (this is PM here) select common rocks are prettier and more interesting than say diamonds, tho certainly some jewel rocks are especially attractive. Rocks found in the streams (e.g. Amite, Tangipahoa, Bogue Chitto) of Louisiana and Mississippi are certainly different than those gotten in streams in the Ouachita Mntns of Arkansas. The Louisiana/Mississippi rocks are well-rounded from ?millions? of years of water, sand, etc, I suppose. And they are a various colors and sources. You can periodically find fossils in them (Alyse has a better eye than I do, and can spot em). The Arkansas rocks are jagged. Usually slate, marble, granite, quartz. In big quantities, being upheaved by geological incidents. Hunting for rocks can be testy. Usually the stream access is either a state park or it’s private property, and it’s blocked by bushes and trees.
