Clothing styles differed a lot across India's regions, cultures, and time periods. Although garments like Stanapatta or Kanchuka were used in some places to cover the bust, not all women everywhere wore them. During Islamic rule in parts of India, and later under British colonial rule, clothing styles changed as new ideas of modesty were introduced. Jnanadanandini Debi, the wife of Satyendranath Tagore, was reportedly denied entry to clubs under British rule because she wore the sari fabric over her bare chest. In response, she began wearing blouses with the sari and became known for popularizing blouses, jackets, chemises, and the modern sari draping style in India. #manishamalik #indianfashion #indianculture #blouse #sari #saree #chokherbali
