Footage shows a Concorde supersonic jet being lifted by crane to be loaded onto a barge on August 9 for restoration work in Brooklyn, New York. The iconic British Airways plane - one of only two still airworthy - had been on show at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum since 2003 but will spend the next few months at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Staff said the work on the aircraft is expected to take about three months and will begin by sanding and stripping the plane down to bare metal before it is repainted. The Concorde was capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach (1,354 mph or 2,179 km/h), which made it possible to travel from New York to London in just under three hours. However, a crash in France in 2000 killing all 109 passengers and crew, couple with high operating costs and declining demand, led to the planes being taken out of service.
