Kix (sometimes stylized as KIX) is an American glam metal and hard rock band that achieved popularity during the 1980s. Led by frontman Steve Whiteman and bassist Donnie Purnell, the band's classic lineup was rounded out by drummer Jimmy “Chocolate“ Chalfant and guitarists Ronnie “10/10“ Younkins and Brian “Damage“ Forsythe. Kix covered AC/DC, Aerosmith, April Wine, Led Zeppelin, and others before signing with Atlantic Records in 1981. Since peaking in the late-1980s, band members have continued to intermittently record and tour, including the Rocklahoma festival in 2008 in Oklahoma. In addition, they are a consistent presence at the annual M3 Rock Festival in the band's home state of Maryland. The song Don't Close Your Eyes is taken from their fourth studio album, Blow My Fuse (1988) through Atlantic label. It was written by Bob Halligan Jr., John Palumbo, and Donnie Purnell. The song remains Kix's most successful single release, peaking at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the group's only top 40 hit, resulting in them frequently being called a one-hit wonder. Don't Close Your Eyes Whatcha doing out in the night time Why'd ya' call me on the phone Your mama can't solve your problems When's daddy ever gonna get home So you did your little move and cried In the middle of a suicide Don't close your eyes Don't close your eyes Don't sing your last lullaby There's no one there to hold you No one hears your scream You live life up and down Your nightmares are your dreams I know it's lonely when your hanging 'round Don't ya' take it lying down - no, no Hold on - Hold on tight I'll make everything all right Wake up - Don't go to sleep I pray the lord your soul to keep Don't close your eyes Don't close your eyes Don't sing your last lullaby Don't close your eyes Don't close your eyes Don't sing your last lullaby
