Tim Young, who mastered our first 6 albums, used to to say, “Ah, it’s time to polish the turd again!” when I entered his cutting room with the tapes under my arm. Once, after a preliminary listen through to our third album, ‘curtains’, he gave me the tapes back and told me to come back when I had mixed it properly. Of course, he was right. There is nowhere to hide during the mastering of your album - everything you suspected to be weak has a bright light shone right through it and anything you thought you might get away with, is shown to be ridiculous. All that said, I had a lovely time mastering the new album with Jason at LOUD last week. Look out for a treat from us on 14 February. Join the mailing list:
