A train carrying coal derailed around 4:45 a.m. Friday morning one mile east of Cairo, Nebraska. Two engines are nosed up against each other at Highway 2 and 130th Road in Hall County. A total of 57 cars derailed, and an investigation into the cause is ongoing. The derailment is blocking crossings from High Street to 110th Road. Highway traffic does not appear to be affected. Emergency management officials report no injuries. The emergency management director also says BNSF did not request local resources. BNSF crews are on scene with heavy equipment dealing with the derailment. Emergency Management Director Jon Rosenlund said only coal was involved and fortunately there were no hazardous materials on the train. (Information from #)
