Welcome to Family Story Time at the Colusa County Free Library! This week we are reading “Sun“ by Sam Usher, a great book about a young boy and his grandfather who set out on a picnic and discover adventure on the way! Here are some questions that parents and children can discuss after listening to the book! “provisions” do the boy and his grandad gather for their picnic? If you were going on a picnic, what would you take? 2. How does the color of the sky change throughout the hike that the boy and his grandad take to find the perfect picnic spot? Why do you think the sky changes? 3. According to the boy, he and his grandad have specific jobs while they are on the hike. What are these jobs and which task would you do if you were on a hike? 4. What do the boy and his grandad find in the cave? Where do they have their picnic? 5. If you were having a picnic, where would your perfect spot be? Who would you have a picnic with? Here are some activities that parents and children can do together after listening to the book! 1. Click the link below to see some “pirate yoga” poses! Scroll to the bottom of the page to see five fun and easy yoga poses: steering the ship, the plank, the ship, and the treasure chest. 2. Every pirate needs a parrot, right? Here is a fun parrot craft that only requires a couple of materials: a paper plate, a pair of scissors, some light blue tissue paper, colored markers, colored ribbon or yarn, and a stapler. Optionally you can use a googly eye for the eye of the parrot or you can just draw the eye on. Click the link to see the paper plate parrot craft by the “Glued to My Crafts” blog.
