How many watts do you think is actually needed to drive an amplifier? Do you need 100 watts to run a 100 watt amplifier with a set of 100 watt speakers? In my setup, my TPA3116 D2 amplifier needs about 2.5 watts to drive 1 8 inch subwoofer and 2 inch coaxial car speakers at moderate sound level. At fairly loud level, it needs about 3 watts. To pump out the the maximum rated output of the TPA 3116 D2, you'd need the 24v DC input required by the amplifier. I used a kill a watt meter to give me a read
