CA joint study by a professor of economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and several scholars shows that if a two-week lockdown is imposed on a megacity like Beijing or Shanghai, it will impact China's GDP for the month by about 2%. Despite the devastating impact, unfortunately, up until now, not only does Shanghai show no signs of lifting the lockdown, but Beijing, caught up in a new wave of COVID-19, is moving in the same direction. In addition to China's two best-known cities, more than 45 cities in the country are currently under lockdown in the fifth wave of the outbreak, and some smaller cities, such as the city of Ruili, have been under lockdown off and on for more than 160 days.
