Underwater driving of tanks at the training ground Russian servicemen practiced underwater driving of T-72B3 tanks at a specialized waterdrome at the training centre of the Central Military District in the Sverdlovsk Region. During combat training classes, cadets of the district training centre for junior specialists practiced the skills of crossing natural reservoirs on T-72B3 tanks. During the training, the driver mechanics crossed a pond about four metres deep at a specialised training ground. Future tank crews practiced controlling a combat vehicle on a muddy bottom in the absence of visibility using a gyro-compass designed to determine the direction of movement of tanks under water. When moving along the bottom of the reservoir, the driver mechanics were guided by instrument data and radio corrections from the training leader. Before the dive, the cadets practiced driving T-72B3 tanks at the tankodrome, and completed a light diving training course in the pool using insulating gas masks, allowing servicemen to stay under water for up to three hours.
