A powerful winter storm, bringing severe frosts and heavy snowfall, covered the United States. Severe weather warnings are in effect in 9 states. Freezing rain hit Portland on Thursday morning. The roads and sidewalks, although much emptier than usual, presented a picture of chaos. One video shows the car sliding down the street and crashing into several cars. During the day, police responded to more than 80 incidents. By Friday afternoon, Portland hospitals reported 70 injuries, mostly from people who slipped and fell.
