'Blue Suede Shoes' was written and first recorded by Carl Perkins in 1955. It's considered one of the first rockabilly records, incorporating elements of blues, country and pop music of the time. Perkins' single was on the Cashbox Best Selling Singles list for 16 weeks and spent two weeks in the number 2 position. Elvis Presley recorded his version of the song in 1956. It was also recorded by Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran. Our acoustic guitar version of this rockabilly classic is based on Carl Perkins' original recording. If you'd like to learn the Carl Perkins style, rockabilly boogie guitar technique I use in this song, here's a link to my tutorial: A song sheet containing the lyrics and chords we play can be viewed or downloaded from my songbook blog here: We call our rock 'n' roll guitar trio 'The Escalators' (L-R John Mitchell, Jez Quayle and Tony Rushworth).
