Unfortunately, there is not much background information about the song “Mit Walter Ulbricht kämpft sich's gut“ (It's good to fight with Walter Ulbricht). The text was probably written by Max Zimmering, while the music seems to be made by Klaus Fehmel. The singer is Bernd Riedel. This publication is only for the historical processing of German song history, because it is probably the only song after 1945 that unironically glorifies a statesman. This can be explained by the early days of the GDR, in which songs about Stalin were also sung. This changed later with de-Stalinization. Ulbricht was a great supporter of Stalin and since it was considered good manners at the time to worship his state leader musically, it is more understandable that such a song came about. Also it should not be forgotten that after the Second World War the GDR wanted to present the German people a new strong “leader“ together with a new ideology and thus one wanted to create a new personality cult. However, the GDR changed and such a strong personality cult as in the days of Stalinism never existed again in the GDR, which is probably why no further songs of this kind followed.
