# Cronos: The Titan Lord of Time in Greek Mythology Cronos, also spelled Kronos, is one of the most significant and powerful figures in Greek mythology. As the youngest of the Titans and the father of the Olympian gods, Cronos's story is marked by themes of power, betrayal, and the relentless march of time. His narrative is a cornerstone of ancient Greek myth, illustrating the cyclical nature of rule and the inevitable downfall of tyrants. Cronos was the son of Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth), the primordial deities of the Greek pantheon. As the youngest of their offspring, Cronos was initially one of the least prominent Titans. However, his rise to power began with a violent rebellion against his father. Uranus, fearing his children's potential to overthrow him, had imprisoned them within Gaia. In her anguish, Gaia conspired with Cronos to overthrow Uranus. She provided Cronos with a sickle, which he used to castrate Uranus, thereby usurping his father’s rule and liberating his siblings.
