In late 2007 the custom-built excursion vessel, MV Explorer, set out to retrace the steps of Ernest Shackleton on a 19-day long cruise; but before she could make it home Explorer was driven hard into an ice field that tore open her hull and sank her. Just how did the ice sink this veteran ship which was designed specifically for service in the poles? Today we'll revisit the MV Explorer story and see what chain of events sent her to the bottom.
