Firefighters were on the scene as black smoke and flames engulfed a building under construction in a suburb of Charlotte, NC. RELATED: American Airlines engine catches fire after plane hits bird Crews were battling a four-alarm fire and at least one rescue operation was reported after a large blaze broke out Thursday morning in Charlotte, North Carolina, first responders said. The Charlotte Fire Department reported it responded to a structure fire call before 10 a.m. ET in the city's SouthPark neighborhood. About 10:30 a.m., the department tweeted it was on scene of the four-alarm fire on Liberty Row Drive and was asking people to avoid the area.
