Prisoner Mohammed Al-Khatib from Tulkarem is free after 21 years inside the occupation’s prisons. Mohammed underwent severe interrogation for several months after his 2003 arrest. During his imprisonment, he earned his bachelor’s degree. Al-Khatib’s is a victim of the medical crimes against prisoners, which have escalated significantly since October 7, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club. The Club stated that the systematic procedures and crimes imposed by the prison administration against sick prisoners have exceeded the concept of “deliberate medical neglect,“ affirming that description is no longer sufficient to estimate the level of crimes committed against sick prisoners. Al-Khatib has suffered from severe back pain since July 2020 due to disc herniation, spending about 7 months bedridden. For over two and a half years, he faced deliberate medical neglect (slow killing), with delays in hospital transfers for a necessary injection approved by a specialist over a year ago. Mohammed only received painkillers and narcotics, causing kidney, liver, and concentration issues. The Club noted that Al-Khatib is among over 600 prisoners suffering from diseases and health problems facing the crime of systematic medical negligence (slow killing). Prisoners such as Ahmad Abu Ali and Sheikh Khader Adnan have ascended to martyrdom as a result of medical neglect in the last year. Their bodies are still held by the occupation.
