If the night time or caves weren't already scary enough, the descent into madness mod adds a sanity meter to the game which slowly depletes when your Minecraft character does things that scare them- like battle mobs, go in the dark or Get Struck By Lightning. As the sanity bar descends, strange noises start happening around you and your vision blurs- until eventually, haunting monsters begin appearing, staring at you from afar.
