- During the geomagnetic storm last weekend those lucky enough to be at high latitudes were not the only ones to catch the resulting aurora. Astronauts on the International Space Station got a spectacular view from ABOVE the aurora! This footage was recorded over the southern Indian Ocean over a 23-minute period from 17:22:27 to 17:45:12 GMT on Sept. 17. The underbelly of the station glows from reflected auroral light. Sirius the dog star and Orion the Hunter can be see rising into the night sky. This display from from a relatively small geomagnetic storm (1 on scale of 1-5) and was caused by a CME that just glanced Earth.
