Hundreds are already gathered along Whitehall to pay their respects at the Cenotaph. Several people were seen holding Union flags and a small crowd has gathered around Winston Churchill’s statue on Parliament Square. There is a heavy police presence in the area and the entire road from Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square is barricaded. Almost 2,000 Metropolitan Police officers will be on duty in central London over the weekend, as the force prepares for Armistice and pro-Palestinian events. The force said officers from other UK forces would also be on duty in the capital as part of a major policing operation. It added that while large security operations happen annually for Remembrance weekend, “this year’s is far greater and more complex than we’ve delivered before.” Hundreds of thousands of people are expected take to the streets of London for a pro-Palestinian march organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign on Saturday.
