Floods in southern Russia and Kazakhstan forced tens of thousands of people out of their homes.
Melting snow has caused the Ural River to surge, and flood-defenses around the city of Orenburg to collapse. A rescue operation is underway, but locals say not enough was done to prevent the flooding in the first place.
