The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mental Evaluation Team (LASD MET) traveled over 2,500 miles to help train fellow law enforcement, fire, EMS and healthcare workers after being invited by the Pennsylvania State Police Department. The training was developed by psychologists and deputies with extensive field experience in de-escalating psychiatric incidents. It was an interactive experience where the participants role-played scenarios in order to practice their newly learned skills in managing and de-escalating a variety of situations. “We found, through this training, it presents an open mindedness for additional patient techniques and compassion which is really serving the public in a unique way and that’s what we strive for” said Captain Geoffery Deedrick of LASD MET.
