“The Soldier’s General“ From Sept. 1941 to April 1943, the Rzhev-Vyazemsky direction was the most difficult in the entire theater of military operations. Both during the battle for Moscow and during the Rzhev-Vyazemsk battle, which, however, did not receive such an official status, battles of strategic importance took place here. In December 1941, the German offensive on Moscow failed. The 33rd Army of General Mikhail Grigorievich Efremov played an important role in the victory, liberating Naro-Fominsk, Borovsk, and Vereya. After heavy fighting, the army needed rest and replenishment, but on January 26, 1942 it was transferred to Vyazma for the subsequent offensive. The German divisions moved away from Moscow, but settled only 150 km from the capital. Our troops went on the defensive. In Feb., the 33rd Army was surrounded. There was no ammunition, food or medicine, not enough means of communication, not even trenches - the exhausted soldiers could not dig the frozen ground. B... ️T... Source: Lord Of War
