The first step was building and testing a working catapult system that can launch RC paper planes, powered by a single POWERUP 4.0 module, from the deck of a ship. My catapult system used a single LEGO RC Buggy motor that drove two wheels through a simple gearbox. The wheels would “grab“ the plane and accelerate it to takeoff speed in a fraction of a second, making sure it clears the deck and doesn’t lose much altitude before pitching up and climbing. The second step is incorporating the catapult system in an old-school carrier ship. The carrier is a mix of an old seaplane tender ship and a modern cruiser. The adjustable pitch angle catapult is being housed in a closed hangar for protection and optimized takeoffs. Now that the second step is also complete... who knows what’s next!
