“Wednesday, 6 September From Lerma to La Laguna Negra. Or from the province of Burgos to the province of Soria in the region of Castilla y León. A whopping 163 kilometres, mostly on hilly roads and at the end the climb to La Laguna Negra. On the last 500 metres, the road climbs at 11.2 %. Almost the entire stage is constantly at an altitude of between 800 and 1100 metres. Little spectacular, except that a group of adventurers will set out to win the day, which they will probably succeed in doing. In fact, there is only one real obstacle on the route, the final climb to Laguna Negra, a task of a good 16 kilometres at 4% if you start counting at the ““false flat““ that introduces the climb. Something for riders with stamina for the long effort and quickness for a final uphill sprint. At least that's how it was at the 2020 Corona Vuelta, when Daniel Martin held off both eventual overall winner Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz after a thrilling battle. The profile of the stage was a bit tougher then, though, with another long drawn-out climb before the finale. According to the legend of the Black Lagoon, the remains of a man murdered by his two sons lie in the water. A story just as horrific as that of La Planche des Belles Filles in the Vosges, where innocent girls jumped from the mountainsides to escape their attackers. The more horrific the legend, the more epic the cycling wars that have already been fought there, it seems. Let's hope the same for La Laguna Negra. Officially, the climb to La Laguna Negra is 6.5 kilometres long, and the average gradient is 6.8%. But on the last 1.5 kilometres it is 9%. And on the last 500 metres even 11.2 %.“ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power. You are welcome to support me with a donation:
