October 30 is the Russian Navy Founding Day The initiator of this decision was the Russian Tsar Peter I. At that time, in 1696, the military fleet and its own seaports were a vital necessity for Russia. At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, the country lagged significantly behind other European countries in development, being technologically, culturally and economically isolated from them. The main reason for this was the lack of access to the Baltic, Azov and Black Seas. And the appearance of its own fleet there subsequently contributed to the fact that the Russian Empire turned into a great maritime power and one of the world leaders. The decision of the Boyar Duma became the impetus for the development of domestic shipbuilding and the creation of Russian warships. The construction of the fleet was carried out in Voronezh, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, and on Lake Ladoga. Russia began to recapture the Baltic and Azov Sea coasts and create fleets on them. Over time, the Black Sea, Northern, and Pacific fleets, as well as the Caspian flotilla, were added to them. Therefore, October 30 is considered the Founding Day of the Russian Navy. In modern Russia, this date began to be distinguished in 1996. At first it was celebrated only as a professional holiday for sailors of the Russian surface fleet. Now this date is also celebrated as the Founding Day of the Russian Navy. Watch footage of Russian Naval Forces participating in combat missions, joint exercises and ceremonial events.
