The Malayan Horned Frog, also known as the Long-Nosed Horned Frog ( Megophrys nasuta ) is perhaps the most perfectly evolved camouflaged frog, perfectly blending in to the leaf litter in the rainforest, making it an expert ambush predator. The Malayan Horned Frogs have voracious appetites and will eat pretty much anything they can overpower, which is a lot considering their large size! The Malayan Horned Frog is so well camouflaged it is extremely hard to detect, even if you are looking right at it... however they do give away their direction, as at night they give a call, a distinctive Honk. This frog breeds near waterways, laying eggs underneath rocks, or similar. The Science: With over 1 Million species on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, animal populations are in decline the world over. This is due to many reasons but what we know for sure is to keep the planet's amazing diversity of wildlife we need to learn as much as possible about where and how these creatures live their lives. Collating all the data we are gathering will help build a picture of which habitats are key to sustaining the largest diversity of life on planet earth. Thanks to our amazing team without whom the series would not have been possible!
