Burlesca – 0:00 Intermezzo – 3:05 Toccata – 6:58 Three pieces for piano were written by Klement Slavický (1910-1999) at the turn of the years 1946 and 1947. Those years marked the most productive and blissful period of his life – happy marriage, birth of his son and the end of war served as a great breeding ground for these works. That period, however, did not last long; Slavický suffered tremendously after the events of the Czechoslovak coup in 1948. As he was not in the communist party, he soon lost his job and was expelled from Prague's musical life. Although the Three pieces for piano were published in 1948, they were quickly made out of print and destroyed. Only a couple of copies survived and were shared among pianists. The post-war period of Slavický's work is often labeled as a synthesis of modernism and folk music. It also contains elements of neoclassicism.
