Sir Simon Rattle On March 23, 2013, the Berlin Philharmonic presented the production version of the internationally acclaimed “The Magic Flute“ on stage at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival. This performance is not only the Berlin Philharmonic’s debut at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, but also the orchestra’s first recording of the opera live. The three previous recordings made by Sir Mars Beecham (1937-1938), Karl Boehm (1964) and Herbert von Karajan (1980) were recorded and not live. Sir Simon Rattle himself first conducted this version of The Magic Flute. “Let’s not forget how classic The Magic Flute is, so unprecedented, so different.“ -Sir Simon Rattle
