Author: Andrew McCarthy Totality: An HDR composite image of yesterday's eclipse. This photo used 5 cameras to capture thousands of photos during a 4 minute period. My goal was to capture the magic of the visual experience, and I hope this photo evokes similar emotions I experienced while watching it. “A total solar eclipse is an event that unites us in awe as we stare at the miracle of our universe. Photos don't do it justice, but I was determined to try. To capture “Totality“ I traveled across the country with a vehicle full of telescopes and cameras, to end up setting up in a remote field in Missouri 1,400 miles from home to dodge the unpredictable weather in other locations. The moment of totality was over 4 minutes long, and in that time I captured thousands of photos across 5 different cameras. This was to properly capture the extreme range of values in the sky during this moment. This is one of the most difficult shots I've ever captured: a labor of love that pushed me to my limits.
