Cellist Andreas Helling and guitarist Patrik Kleemola perform Franz Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, D. 821. The sonata was originally written for arpeggione and piano. Arpeggione (also known as “Guitarre d'amour”) was a bowed instrument tuned like a guitar and had frets like a guitar. Schubert wrote the Sonata in November 1824 for this new instrument but the work was not published until 1871, when the arpeggione itself was already forgotten. The work is today performed in various arrangements. The guitar arrangement heard here is by Swedish guitarist Martin Fogel. Franz Schubert (1797-1828) Arpeggione Sonata, D. 821 (1824) 00:00 I.
