Birds Eggs. Part of the WEIGHT AND SEA issue. Yorkshire. Various shots of elderly men walking along a cliff path. Commentator explains that “To speed up the wartime food drive“ they are off to collect eggs from the cliffside nests of seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and seagulls. 56-year-old George Tundler (Chandler?) puts on a safety belt and battered policeman's helmet to protect against falling rocks, then is lowered on a rope down the side of the steep cliff to a nest and collects the eggs. M/S of the other old men sitting on the grass and hauling their friend up again. George puts the eggs into a basket. Cataloguer's note: music for this item sounds like something from a Hitchcock film! FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
