Joe Biden certainly left an impression on Brazil’s President Lula da Silva after the pair’s joint speech at the UN on Wednesday. Firstly, he crashed into a Brazilian flag on his way onto the stage, almost knocking it over. Then he gave a rambling speech about ‘economic vision to rebuild our economy from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down,’ as a bemused Lula looked on. During Lula’s speech, Biden was distractedly fumbling with his headset, which he dropped at one point. For his final trick, Biden forgot to shake hands with Lula after the speech, leaving the Brazilian leader looking like someone who’d just missed a bus and had to pretend he didn’t want to catch the bus anyway. Biden did, however, salute the assembled reporters, for some reason, before wandering off looking confused. Oh well, at least he didn’t forget his signature move.
