It is a subtle advertisement for Mercury Outboard engines. Kiekhaefer Mercury company began in 1939 when engineer Carl Kiekhaefer purchased a small outboard motor company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and ended up with a successful business selling motors through the Montgomery Ward catalog.
