When I was 16 I was very much into Nightwish and wanted (like many other girls impressed by Tarja’s voice) to learn how to sing opera. So when I went to my first class with my future singing teacher, Emma Sarkisyan, I sang a fragment from “Sleeping Sun“. She listened to it patiently and then said: “You have a good voice, we can work with that, but isn’t it some kind of a pop song?“. I was deeply offended ? Ironically, in hindsight, this phrase should have been a hint, considering that now I do covers on YouTube and not sing in
