Emerging from a musical background in Cuba, Sandoval's journey began in the prestigious National School of Arts in Havana, where he studied classical trumpet before delving into jazz. In the early 1970s, Sandoval gained international recognition as a member of the groundbreaking Cuban jazz ensemble Irakere, led by the legendary Chucho Valdés.
