The Battle at the Long Bridges (Pontes Longi) was the first significant encounter between the rogue Cherusci chieftain and former Roman officer Arminius and Germanicus' army. The Roman commander, Caecina, became stuck in marshy terrain and faced attacks from Arminius' warriors for three days and two nights. This prolonged Battle was costly for the Romans, and some legionaries had flashbacks to the disaster at Teutoburg Forest six years earlier.
