The wolf was widespread throughout Europe during the Viking Age. Shepherds and cattle keepers did not like wolves, since the voracious predator loves to feast on sheep and cattle. In Norse mythology, several famous wolves appear. Odin has two wolves, namely Gere and Freke, who are his faithful companions.
