The Payara, Hydrolycus scomberoides, also known as “Dog Tooth Characin“, “Vampire Fish“, “Cachorra“ (Venezuela) or “Chambira“ (Peru) is a little-known species of gamefish that lives in the Orinoco River in Venezuela and in the Amazon basin.
