More than 2,000 Israeli settlers and ultra-nationalists have entered Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem. Israeli police prevented the settlers from entering the mosque itself. Many were seen performing Jewish religious rituals. Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and another minister were among the group. Ben-Gvir has previously said he believes Jews should have the right to pray at the Muslim holy site, which both Israeli law and the compound’s “status quo” regulations prohibit.
