This joint forms the highest point of the shoulder. The AC joint functions to allow the individual to raise their arm above their head. There are three ligaments which join the two bones and form the AC Joint. Straining any of these ligaments can cause pain in the shoulder. Most of the time strain to these ligaments occurs due to a dislocation or separation.
