The mystery of the 12 orcs in space solved: scientists have found traces of galaxy collisions Giant ghostly structures - either rings or bubbles, whose diameters were about 10 times the size of our galaxy. Their images obtained by the Australian Radio Telescope in 2019 were unlike any known type of cosmic object. They have been dubbed “Odd Radio Circles.“ The acronym is ORC - that is, Orcs. So far, 12 Orcs have been discovered. Astrophysicists at the University of California have published a clue, they believe, in the journal Nature. Inside the ring is an entire galaxy, it and “inflated“ it by colliding with another galaxy. Scientists have modelled this process - it turned out to be very similar.
