Guess there was no need to ask ‘why the long face’. A fire crew in LA came to the rescue of a 1200lb (540kg) horse on Wednesday, after it became trapped deep in a sinkhole which had opened up in the ground. According to the property owner, the horse had been standing around minding its own business, when the sinkhole appeared with no warning. The horse became stuck fast in the mud, and had to be pulled out with a winch. At first, our brave hero was shaky on his feet, but was soon walking easily again. The horse is reported to have told emergency personnel at the scene – ‘That’s the last time I wish for the ground to swallow me up.’
