“Wednesday, 10 May The 5th Giro stage starts in Atripalda and ends in Salerno. On a distance of 171 kilometres there are about 2,500 metres of altitude to overcome. Most of the climbs are on the first part of the route. After the start it quickly gets tricky and after 11.6 kilometres the riders reach the first climb of the day, the Passo Serra. The Passo Serra is 3.9 kilometres long and has an average gradient of 7.4%. It continues uphill and downhill until finally the highest point of the day - 972 metres above sea level - is reached on the Guardia dei Lombardi. This is an 8.4 kilometre climb with a 3% gradient. There are still 100 kilometres to go until the finish. Interrupted by some slightly ascending passages, we descend to Oliveto Citra, where the steepest climb of the day awaits: 2.6 kilometres at 8%. After the summit, a short descent awaits and then it continues for 3.4 kilometres at 3.5%. That is the end of the uphill. The last 50 kilometres are first down to the Mediterranean Sea and then on the flat along the coast to Salerno. Salerno is not an unknown place for the Giro. Already ten times a stage ended there, even if we have to look for a long time for the last one. In 1995, Rolf Sørensen won in the small town at the beginning of the Amalfi Coast. “ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Route data: Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
