1974, part of the campaign, originally titled %, is a documentary film by Raymond Depardon on the campaign of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in the 1974 presidential election. Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, then Minister of Economy and Finance, launched an “American-style“ campaign. Raymond Depardon follows the dashing presidential candidate. He is everywhere: in his DS, in his helicopter, in meetings with his campaign team, in his meetings, in his office when Giscard waits alone for the results of the second round. Raymond Depardon will take the decision to treat the subject as a news report, in direct cinema, but by focusing not on the program or the candidate's speeches but rather on what is happening behind the scenes, during the meetings, travel, meetings. He will deliberately favor the non-event, look for details, gestures, little words, revolve around his subject and not paint a portrait of the man through his ideas, his actions, his strategy. Made in 1974 on the orders of the future president, the film was censored for a long time and was only broadcast for the first time on February 20, 2002. Inspired by American direct cinema, Depardon accepted this work without remuneration, only the sound engineer was paid. .
