Stefano Cerioni is an Italian former foil fencer, who won the individual gold in Olympic Games in Seoul,1998. At the young age he practiced both saber and foil, but foil quickly gained his preference. Cerioni was a temperamental fencer, which cost him dearly in 1986 World Championships. After insulting the judges, he was suspended from competition for the entire year. 4 years after he returned for the Seoul Olympic Games and took the individual gold medal. Stefano Cerioni was an outstanding athlete with a champion mentality. After athletic career, he became Italian national foil coach for both women’s and men’s teams. Under his leadership, Italy won gold medals in men's and women's team events and three medals in women's foil at the 2012 Summer Olympics. After 2012 Summer Olympics, Cerioni joined the Russian Fencing Federation and contributed to the impressive success of the Russian foil teams in 2013-2014 seasons. Follow and share!
