So, Downing Street officials are busy drafting a “media plan” to announce the eventual passing of Larry the cat. Larry, a much-loved fixture at Number 10, is often spotted lounging outside the door during major political moments and news broadcasts. Now, at 17 years old, this ‘chief mouser’ is well into his twilight years, having already outlived the typical lifespan for a tabby. Government sources reveal that a press release and graphics are being prepared “for the sad day he goes.” Larry, originally adopted from Battersea Cats Home, was brought to Downing Street by David Cameron as a pet for his children. Since then, he’s outlasted five prime ministers. The Cabinet Office website even has a biography for him, which notes: “Larry has been in residence since 15 February 2011, and he is the first cat at Number 10 to be officially titled Chief Mouser. Larry was recruited from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for his mousing skills and has made a significant impact on the household.” It goes on
